Make a Wish Raffle Quilt

Ma & I did some major marathon quilting this past weekend while Matt visited North Carolina & Virginia to hunt deer, geese, swan, and possibly even unicorns - ;)
We're making a quilt for our local Make-a-Wish chapter to raffle for thier their "Beat the Winter Blues" dinner-auction in March.
She came over Thursday with 5 big totes of fabric and I dug through my stash. We found 5 different cream-on-cream and white-on-cream fabrics and a few different light & dark blues. She ran to Jo-anne's to get a few more blues (we didn't feel we had enough in our scraps - so much for our plan to only use our stash - but I'm still glad most of it was stuff we had) We decided to combine 2 patterns. Our intent was to create a log-cabin in a barn-raising set with Ohio stars as the cabin centers.
We didn't start digging into the fabric until about 8:30 that night (got a little side-tracked when Dad & Armond dropped in and we enjoyed a heated game of Scene-It) We cut strips and squares that night. Then from about 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, we set to peicing. Ma made all the center squares and I continued cutting our stips into logs. Then, I ran the iron and snipped corners as she kept doing square after square after square (36 times!)
Grady was a charm! He just hung out in his swing and 'sang' with us as we went about our business. I'd stop and tend to his needs and we'd both take cuddle breaks throughout the day.

She spent another night and we kept at it until 9 p.m. Saturday. We both added logs (randomly picking blues and creams) and peiced rows. Then we laid out the blocks.
What? This isn't what I was expecting...it's pretty (actually, now I think I prefer it) but it wasn't exactly what we had in mind.

Well, duh - of course not. We didn't take into consideration the backround of the star being all cream would interrupt the traditional barn-raising look. That's OK, a few turns of the blocks, and voila -another beautiful result...

Ma's adding borders this week and quilting, then I will join her on Sunday to bind the edges. Thanks, Ma!! Let's make more!

By the way, Matt did return with geese and a swan (a massive specimen), but no deer...and no unicorn!

Oh Jen, it's beautiful!! You girls are quilting crazies too, eh! :)I love how moving the blocks around completely changes them. Such a cool thing to do! I would love to do a charity quilt in the near future!!

The 2nd version is fabulous! I'm so ridiculous I would have just been disappointed with the 1st way and thought it was stuck that way.

Way to go you two!
